Softball Splits with Nichols

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team took game two by a score of 4-3 over Nichols College after falling 3-2 in game one of a non-conference doubleheader at Maple Street Field.  

THE BASICS:

- Records: Framingham State (18-17), Nichols (22-18)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Nichols 3, Framingham 2 

  • Nichols got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the first when they capitalized on a Rams error. 

  • Nichols extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth on a two run single from Ally Moran. 

  • Moran took the loss for the Rams in the circle going seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits with five strikeouts. 

  • Cassidy Machado earned the save for Nichols tossed three innings of scoreless relief while allowing just one hit. 

Game 2: Framingham 4, Nichols 3 

  • In game two, Nichols grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Rams tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two run double from Shelby Roode. 

  • The Rams took the lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Marina Cadena. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 4-2 on a Gwendolyn Carpenter sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. 

  • The Bison added a single run in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Caroline Hughes earned the victory in the circle for the Rams going seven innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits.

The Rams are back in action Saturday with a pair of games against Fitchburg State beginning at 1 p.m.
