Salem State Bests Men’s Soccer; 1-0

Salem, Mass. The Framingham State men's soccer team was defeated by Salem State by a score of 1-0 in MASCAC action Saturday afternoon in Salem 

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Salem State 1, Framingham State 0 

- Records:Framingham State (4-2, 1-1 MASCAC), Salem State (5-2-1, 2-0 MASCAC) 

- Location: Alumni Field – Salem, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • After a scoreless first half it was the Vikings who struck first. Vanilton Xavier scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Brendan Walsh, after a missing a similar opportunity earlier in the game  

  • Kunphel Sinha had a promising 25-foot kick for the Rams that was saved by Matt Hauntsman  at the 75-minute mark. Hauntsman made another incredible save with just eight minutes left in the game to keep the Rams from scoring. 

  • Hauntsman made nine saves in the shutout win for Salem. 

  • Joseph Sturzo made eight saves in the tough luck loss for the Rams.  

  • Salem held a slim 15-to-12 advantage in shots while earning eight penalty kicks to the Rams two.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Springfield College for a non-league clash starting at 7pm.
