NORTH ADAMS, MA - The Elms College Women's Basketball team secure the win over the MCLA Trailblazers on the road today. Blazers start their first week 2-0 in their season.

How it Happened

Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) had a stellar first quarter knocking down 3 out of the 4 three pointers she attempted, leading the Blazers with 9 points in the first 10 minutes of play. First Year Kayla Jackson (Saugus, MA) did not dissapoint in the paint having 5 rebounds, 4 points and 1 assist down low. Elms led the first quarter 18-16, with a percentage of 44.4% from the three while MCLA followed behind with 33.3%.

Closing out the first half the Blazers rasied their free throw percentage to 60% from the line, with 50% from the field helping boost their score. The Blazers controlled the offensive boards having seven overall in the first half over the Trailblazers three. Elms led 43-29 heading into the half.

The Trailblazers would win the third quarter, outscoring the Blazers 19-10 with a 44% FG percentage. Despite the score Brianna Metellus (Springfield, MA), Mikayler Patch (North Attleboro, MA), and Johnston would all crash the boards totalling three each in the quarter adding to the team total of 12, out rebounding MCLA by 1 in the third. Elms would still hold the lead but it was only a two possetion game now, 53-48. 

Elms would get to the line 14 times in the fourth quarter, cashing in 11 of the free points. Jackson would dominate once again in the post with 4 offensive boards, 5 defensive boards with 9 just in the fourth. The first year from Saugus, MA would attain anther double double with 16 rebounds and 18 points, she would also go 100% from the Free throw Line (4-4) and cash in two assists. The Blazers would add another win taking down MCLA 68-58, going 2-0 in the first week of their 2022 season.
