Big First Period Sends Salem State Past Ice Hockey

Framingham, Mass. – Salem State's Zach Dill scored a hat trick en route to a 5-3 win in MASCAC play Thursday evening at Loring Arena.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:   Salem State 5, Framingham State 3 

- Records: Framingham State (3-7-1, 2-4-1 MASCAC), Salem State (3-9-0, 1-6 MASCAC) 

- Location: Loring Arena Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Vikings got on the board with their first offensive possession when Keagan O'Donoghue fed Zach Dill for the early 1-0 lead.  

  • A few minutes later Dill tipped in a setup from Matt Yianacopolus on the powerplay to go up two.  

  • The Rams answered a few minutes later when Devante Dixon found the back of the cage with help from Luca Olivo and Ashton Collazo.  

  • Salem converted again on the man advantage when Jason Tynan finished off a pass from Peyton Hughes to move the lead back to two goals.  

  • The Vikings added a goal early in the second when Dill completed the hattrick 32 ticks into the period.  

  • Salem added another tally with seven minutes to go when Erik Larsson finished a setup from Dill. 

  • Kaleb Kinskey and Ashton Collazo both scored goals for the Rams in the final minute of play to reach the final margin.  

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • Aaron Mercer made 20 saves in the win for the Vikings. 

  • Blake Carlson stopped 20 shots on goal in net for the Rams before giving way to Trevor Stenberg in the third period.  

  • The Vikings were able to take advantage of the Rams 10 penalties going 2-for-9 on the man advantage.  

  • The Rams were 1-for-4 on the power play.  

 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams return to the ice on Saturday when they head to UMass Dartmouth for a MASCAC clash at 5:30pm. The Vikings will travel to Fitchburg for MASCAC action at 5pm on the same day.
