Women's Basketball Opens Second Half of Season with 70-62 Victory over Salve Regina

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University women's basketball team used a second quarter run to take the lead for good as the Rams defeated Salve Regina University 70-62 this evening in non-conference action at Logan Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were paced by a double double of 25 points and 10 rebounds from Katherine Haselton. Haselton added six assists and three steals. 

  • Abigail Martin finished the game with 12 points, three rebounds and four steals, while Faith Greene just missed a double double scoring 12 points with nine rebounds. 

  • The Seahawks were led by 20 points and eight rebounds from Briana Neary, while Ashley Rourke finished the game with 12 points including the 1,000thof her career. Amada Folan finished the night with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. 

  • The Rams led 8-6 after a first quarter that saw both teams struggle from the floor. In the opening stanza both teams shot 19% from the floor and neither made a shot from long range. 

  • In the second quarter, the two teams traded baskets and saw three ties including 13-13 with 7:12 on the clock. The Rams used a 14-2 run capped by a a three point play from Abigail Martin to lead 27-15.  Salve Regina closed the gap to six on a free throw with a minute to play, but the Rams used a Haselton basket and two Martin free throws to push lead to 31-21 at the half. 

  • The Seahawks closed the gap to six (35-29) with just over six minutes to play in the third, but the Rams pushed the lead to 40-29 after a Haselton layup with just over five to play. 

  • The Seahawks chipped away closing the deficit to 45-41 on a three from Ashley Rourke with 1:44 on the clock. The three was the 1,000th career point for Rourke. After trading points to close the quarter, the Rams led 50-44 after three. 

  • The Rams started the final quarter with a 10-2 run taking a 60-46 lead with just under seven on the clock. Salve Regina would get no closer than seven points the remainder of the fourth as the Rams secured the victory.

  • Salve Regina is back in action tomorrow in Framingham when they face St. Joseph's (ME), while the Rams are off until Saturday when they will play St. Joseph's (ME) at 1 p.m.
