Softball Picks Up a Pair of Victories over Minn.-Morris and Smith

Auburndale, Fla. - The Framingham State University softball team earned a pair of victories this morning defeating Minnesota-Morris 6-1 before defeating Smith College by a score of 14-4 at the Spring Games.     

THE BASICS:

FSU-Minn. Morris:  

  • The Rams grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the second inning on a Keely Scotia RBI single to centerfield.
  • The Rams extended the lead with four in the third to lead 5-0 after three. Gwendolyn Carpenter singled plating the first run and Talia Duca added an RBI single of her own.  Makayla Rooney followed with an infield single scoring a run.
  • The Rams added a final run in the bottom of the fourth on a Zoe Smyth RBI single. Minn.-Morris added a single run in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin.
  • Olyvia Mendonca earned the victory in the circle for the Rams tossing four innings of relief allowing one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts. Rylynn Witek started in the circle and tossed three scoreless allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
  • Carpenter finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Scotia finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI.
  • Camille Desrochers and Makayla Rooney each went 2-for-4 in the game. 

FSU-Smith 

  • The Rams jumped on the board with three in the top of the second inning.  Desrochers delivered a two-run single to left and Brooke Grassia added an RBI single to right.
  • The Rams added one in the third on a Scotia homer to center and three more in the fourth on a three-run homer from Kelsey McGuill pushing the lead to 7-0.    
  • Smith pushed across a run in the bottom of the third, but the Rams tallied a run in the sixth and six more in the seventh extending the lead to 14-1. Smith tallied three in the bottom of the inning to reach the final margin.
  • Ally Moran tossed a complete game to earn the victory in the circle for the Rams. Moran allowed four runs, none earned, on eight hits, with seven strikeouts and two walks.
  • Scotia finished the game 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored, while McGuill finished the day 1-for-4 with four RBI.
  • Grassia finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Smyth went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a walk and two RBI. Desrochers also recorded a pair of hits and drove in a couple
