Women’s Basketball dominates second half on way to 50-39 win over Bard

Annandale on the Hudson, NY- MCLA first year Zaylee Ramos led all scorers with 20 points helping the Trailblazers earn a nonconference road victory over Bard College tonight, 50-39. With the win MCLA improves to 3-7 on the season while Bard falls to 1-7.

After an evenly played first quarter, the host Raptors would hold the Trailblazers to just four points in the second quarter taking a 21-14 lead into the locker room.

MCLA would turn the tables coming out of the locker room going on a 7-0 run and tying the game up at 21-21 on a Ramos 3-pointer at the 6:31 mark of the third quarter. Bard would reclaim the lead twice but eventually the Trailblazers offensive aggressiveness would earn them a 30-26 lead going into the final stanza.

After catching MCLA once again a minute and a half into the fourth at 30-30, first year Kristie Zator would spark off an 19-2 run with a 3-pointer pushing the Trailblazers out to a 49-32 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the contest. The visitors would take care of business the rest of the way and capture the 50-39 win.

Ramos would add 7 rebounds and 4 steals to her game-high 20 points. Senior Maddie Teta would chip in 9 points to go along with her 5 steals and 5 rebounds. Senior Olivia Pressley with 7 points and first year Hailey Peabody with 11 rebounds also had strong performances.

Bard was led by Thalia Grandinetti with 17 points and Maggy Peyton with 10 rebounds.

Both teams shot just over 32% from the field. MCLA was 4-18 from beyond the arc while Bard was just 1-10. The Raptors also turned the ball over 29 times.

Bard returns to action this Saturday when they travel to RPI for a 2pm Liberty League contest. MCLA will also hit the road on Saturday for a 1pm nonconference matchup with Wentworth.
