Baseball Takes Two from Worcester State

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team took both ends of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader with Worcester State by scores of 7-1 and 9-6 this afternoon at Bowditch Field.

- Records: Framingham State (6-11, 4-2 MASCAC), Worcester State (5-15, 4-4 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

Game 1: Framingham St. 7, Worcester St. 1 

  • The Lancers grabbed the early lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. 

  • The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Lancers until the top of fifth inning when Lucas Basile plated a run on a ground out. 

  • The Rams took the lead for good in the top of the sixth when Daniel Robichaud delivered an RBI double. 

  • The Rams added five more in the top of seventh to reach the final margin. Dane Frellick drove in a pair with a single and Robichaud added a two run double down the left field line. 

  • Cameron Prescott earned the victory on the mound for the Rams, going seven innings allowing one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts. 

  • Robichaud and Cameron Gilroy each finished the game with a pair of hits.  

Game 1: Framingham St. 9, Worcester St. 6 

  • The Rams grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two run double from Robert Johnston. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 6-0 in the top of the third. Frellick singled home a run and Gilroy added a two run single in the frame. 

  • A single run in the top of the fourth pushed the lead to 7-0, but the Lancers got one back in the bottom of the inning on a home run. 

  • Ryan Boyle singled home a run in the top of the fifth and Robichaud doubled home a run in the top of the sixth for the 9-1 lead. 

  • Worcester State closed the gap with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, but PJ Moniz came on for the Rams and was able to record the final three outs. 

  • Adam Martin earned the victory on the mound going six innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts. 

  • Johnston finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI.

The Rams are back in action this tomorrow with a pair of games against Salem State.
