Women’s Soccer Gets in the Win Column at Salem State

Framingham, Mass. Calen Frongillo scored two goals for Framingham State as the Rams defeated Salem State 3-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. 

THE BASICS: 

- Score: Framingham State 3, Salem State 2 

- Records:Framingham State (1-9, 1-2 MASCAC), Salem State (2-7, 1-2 MASCAC) 

- Location: Alumni Field Salem, Mass.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Hailey Baker put home a rebound in the 6th minute, putting Framingham State on top 1-0. Later, Salem State tied the game at 1-1 when Kaley Moran outfought a defender in the box to score the game-tying goal in the 37th minute. 

  • However, the Rams responded with two quick strikes from Frongillo, less than two minutes later. Frongillo put home a free kick from 30-yards out and was credited with her second score 26 seconds later, when a Vikings' defender deflected a shot past keeper Lily Pfefferle. 

  • Framingham State held a slight 7-6 advantage in shots in the first half. 

  • The Vikings controlled possession in the second half, but were unable to challenge keeper Jetta Oskirko.  

  • Brenna Paquette made it a one-goal game for Salem State when she scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 84th minute. However, the Rams' defense kept Salem State at bay the rest of the way to secure the win.  

  • Oskirko made nine saves for Framingham State in net while Pfefferle made four stops for the Vikings, who outshot the Rams 12-7 for the game.
