Baseball Edges Bridgewater State, 4-2, in Rain-Shortened Game
WEYMOUTH, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team topped Bridgewater State 4-2 in seven innings on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Libby Field.
The Lions climb to 2-3 on the season with the win while the Bears fall to 0-1 overall.
Max Miednik (Parkland, Fla.) notched two hits, one RBI, one stolen base, and one run scored. Joshua Bombard (Rutland, Mass.) drove in two RBIs while landing one base knock and scoring one run. Francis Ferguson (Jefferson, Mass.) finished with one hit, one run scored, and a stolen base while Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.) added a hit and a run.
The visitors jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Colin Josselyn rolled a single up the middle to knock in Joey Molis and Luke Tamulevich.
The home side manufactured four runs in the bottom half of the second to claim a 4-2 lead. Bombard scorched a double down the left field line to plate Ferguson and Roldan to knot the contest at 2-2. Miednik followed with a double to the fence in left field to score Bombard and would score on the play due to a series of errors.
Brenndan Rogers (Hanson, Mass.) tossed five innings and racked up five strikeouts in his first start of the spring and 20th career start on the hill. Jon Tessier (Coronado, Calif.) worked 1.1 innings of relief and recorded one strikeout in his third appearance of the year. Morgan Weast (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up his first career save after pitching the final two-thirds of an inning in his team-leading fourth outing.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will visit Bridgewater State March 20 for a non-conference twinbill.
