WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State senior Sean Moorhouse (Westfield, Mass.) knocked out four hits in the doubleheader and classmate Shane Bogli (Vernon, Conn.) picked up the win in game one as the Owls split a non-conference doubleheader with Bridgewater State at Bud and Jim Hagan Field on Friday afternoon.

Westfield State celebrated its senior day, with a limited number of the team's family members in attendance for the first time this season due to pandemic protocols.

Bogli (W, 4-0) worked efficiently through the opener, scattering eight hits through five innings and striking out seven and departed with a 3-2 lead.

Senior Troy Saulnier (Waltham, Mass.) worked a scoreless sixth and classmate Trevor Edwards (Amherst, Mass.) worked the ninth for his seventh save of the season.

Ethan Day (Meriden, Conn.) put the Owls on top with a two-run single in the second inning, and Moorhouse gave the Owls an insurance run with a RBI single in the fifth.

Starter David Kerns (1-4) took the loss for Bridegewater.  Joey Molis had a pair of hits, including an RBI single.  Colin Josselyn drove in the other Bears' run with a base hit.

In the nightcap, Owls starter Patrick Jordan (Reading, Mass.) (L, 3-2) worked his way through four no-hit innings before things unraveled in the fifth inning.

Bridgewater plated five runs in the top of the fifth, aided by three walks and a pair of passed balls.  Ultimately, Cam James  (Ipswich, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs with a single through the left side, and Dan Saraceno (Mansfield, Mass.) drove in another with double.

The Bears tacked on four more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Patrick Cashin (Franklin, Mass.) rapped an RBI double, and Jay Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) ripped a two-run double in the right field gap.

Reliever Ethan Grade (S. Windsor, Conn.) (2-2) worked two innings as the bears turned the tide for the win.  Tyler Dasilva-Medeiros (Taunton, Mass.)  worked a pair of scoreless innings for his fourth save of the season.

Moorhouse was the only repeat hitter for Westfield, and drove in a run.

Westfield is now 16-4 overall, while Bridgewater is 9-14.   The two teams meet again tomorrow in pair of non-conference games at Alumni Park in Bridgewater.

Westfield honored its 12 seniors and their families before the game.   Bogli, Moorhouse, Saulnier, Jordan and Edwards were joined by Nick Martin (Shrewsbury, Mass), Steve Saucier (Auburn, Mass.), Casey Boudreau (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Bryant Dana (Lynnfield, Mass.)  and Brett Dooley (Cohasset, Mass.). The group has led the Owls to a 97-51-1 record over their five-year tenure (due to the pandemic) including three regular season and two MASCAC Tournament titles, and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
