Owls Sweep Past Blue Jays, 3-0

Westfield State University senior captain Shawna Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) executed a team-high 9 kills on 21 total attacks as the Owls swept the Saint Joesph Blue Jays 3-0 in a non-conference women's volleyball matchup at the O'Connell Center in West Hartford on Saturday.

Westfield prevailed 25-14, 25-8, and 25-19 in straight sets to sweep the Blue Jays.

Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Hanna Nihill (Chandler, Az.) each contributed eight kills in the Owls' victory. McAndrews also served up a team-high eight service aces.

Julia Dangel Garcia (Ashland, Mass.) was responsible for over half the team's total assists recording 19 assists to the team's total of 30.

Senior Shannon Carey led the Blue Jays (0-6) in kills with 9 kills on 24 total attacks. Junior setter Fernanda Ayala Rodriguez recorded a team-high 18 assists.

Westfield had an impressive offensive outing, securing a 34-23 kill advantage over Saint Joesph.

Owls Volleyball improves to 3-3 on the season and will compete again next Tuesday, September 13th against the Worcester State Lancers where they will play for their third consecutive win.
