Baseball Splits Two with MCLA

Springfield, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team was split a doubleheader with MCLA today defeating the Trailblazers 3-1 in the opener before falling 7-3 in game two in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader at Archie Allen Field.

-Records: Framingham State (4-15, 2-3 MASCAC), MCLA (4-13, 1-4 MASCAC)

GAME 1: Framingham 3, MCLA 1 

  • The Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single up the middle from JC Espinal. 

  • The Rams extended the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run single from Espinal. 

  • The Trailblazers got on the board with a single run in the sixth to reach the final score. 

  • Cam Prescott earned the victory on the mound for the Rams. Prescott went 5.1 innings allowing one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts. Keith Ramsey earned the save by tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. 

  • Espinal finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Massimo Mondi went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. 

GAME 2: MCLA 7, Framingham 3 

  • In game two, the Trailblazers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the second on a two run home run by Dane Frellick. 

  • The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the third when Espinal reached on an error allowing a run to score from third. 

  • The Trailblazers took the lead for good in the fourth with a pair of runs and added one more in the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Joshua Sunderland took the loss on the mound for the Rams going 3.2 innings, allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits.

The Rams are back in action Monday when they host MCLA at 3 p.m.
