Softball Swings Past Bridgewater State 3-1 and 9-1

Framingham, Mass.  – The Framingham State University softball team swept a doubleheader with Bridgewater State University this afternoon at Maple Street Field.  The Rams took the opener by a score of 3-1 before their bats came alive in a game two 9-1 five inning victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1 -

  • In the opener, the Rams got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs on RBI singles from Laela Pepin and Kirsten Dick.
  • The Bears cut the deficit in half on a solo home run to deep center off the bat of Morgan Cournoyer.
  • The Rams tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Grace Swanson to reach the final margin, 3-1.
  • Swanson, Pepin and Camille Desrochers finished the opener with two hits apiece, while Madelyn Kingel finished with two hits for the Bears.
  • Ally Moran earned the victory in the circle for the Rams going seven innings allowing one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts.
  • Kelley Reichert took the loss for the Bears going six innings allowing three runs, one earned, on 10 hits.

Game 2 -

  • In game two, Jacqui Schwalm staked the Rams to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two run triple.
  • Keely Scotia doubled the Rams lead with a two run double in the bottom third inning.
  • The Bears got a run back in the top of the third inning on a Reichert double.
  • The Rams would plate five runs in the bottom of the fifth innings to secure the run rule victory.  Dick plated a pair of runs with a single and Scotia added an RBI triple.  Payton Ceglarski followed with a sacrifice fly and Morgan Poli plated the final run with a single to right.
  • Scotia finished the game 3-for-3 for the Rams with a run scored and three RBI, while Kelsey McGuill and Pepin finished with two hits apiece.
  • Alexandra Ruprecht finished with a pair of hits for Bears.
  • Shannon Ward earned the victory in the circle going five innings allowing one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts.
  • Laura Hatch took the loss for the Bears going four and two thirds allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits.

UP NEXT:

The Rams are back in action on Saturday when they host Mass. Maritime for a pair of games beginning at noon, while the Bears are back on the field next Friday when they host the Rams for a pair of MASCAC games beginning at 2 p.m.
