BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball wrapped up its home tri-match Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Fitchburg State at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Fitchburg State 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (9-15) | Fighting State (2-19)
SET ONE RECAP (25-12, SUFFOLK)
- Suffolk sat in front to start off, 11-3.
- The Rams never looked back doubled its offensive output to hold a 22-8 cushion.
- The Falcons outscored the blue-and-gold 4-3 from there, but Suffolk's start allowed the hosts to take the first frame.
SET TWO RECAP (25-19, FITCHBURG STATE)
- Suffolk found itself trialing 8-3 after a line-up shuffle.
- The Rams managed to even things up 9-9 after outscoring the Falcons 6-1.
- Fitchburg State responded with a 5-1 stretch to regain the edge, 14-10.
- That distance grew to 17-11.
- Suffolk played catchup again with a 6-1 spurt to pull within one, 18-17.
- The Falcons calmed down in a timeout and slowly built a 24-19 edge before putting the set away on a kill from Sariah Dyer.
SET THREE RECAP (25-13, SUFFOLK)
- Down 8-7, Suffolk scored the next dozen points to make things lopsided 19-8.
- That advantage paid off the rest of the way as the team's nearly went point-for-point.
SET FOUR RECAP (25-14, SUFFOLK)
- Things remained tight and even level at 7-all.
- Behind a 6-1 run the Rams went up 13-8 and then 20-10 on an identical 6-1 spurt.
- It was cruise control from there for the blue-and-gold.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- McKenna Keowen was a force offensively with 17 kills on a .452 attack percentage. She added four digs and a pair of blocks to her effort.
- Isabelle Huzar also hit well with a .800 conversation rate with eight kills on 10 tries.
- Alina Nowakowski and Emily Wheeler each pitched five kills to Suffolk's 39-kill offense.
- Harmony Johnson dished out 14 assists to go along with five aces, three digs and one kill.
- Jayla Martinez dished out half a dozen helpers and two digs.
- Gabriella Piveta and Gabby Elbrecht each handed out five assists.
- Kenzley Bell registered 10 digs to pace the defense that received five digs from Tatum Kalt.
NOTEWORTHY
- Suffolk and Fitchburg State met for the first time.
