Softball Takes Game One over Westfield State 9-7 – Rams Fall in Game Two in 10 Innings

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team took game one over Westfield State by a score of 9-7 before falling 6-5 in 10 innings in game two of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader this afternoon. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 9, Westfield State 7 
Westfield State 6, Framingham State 5 (10 Innings) 

- Records: Framingham State (14-12, 9-3 MASCAC), Westfield State (20-9-1, 8-2 MASCAC) 

- Location: Maple Street Field Framingham, Mass. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham State 9, Westfield State 7 

  • In the opener, the Owls tallied single runs in the top of the second on an RBI single from Alyssa Clark and top of the third on an RBI single from Sarah Hough. 

  • The Rams used a three run home run from Kelsey McGuill in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead. 

  • The Rams tacked on four more in the bottom of fourth including a two run single from Brooke Grassia and an RBI single from Shelby Roode. 

  • Makayla Rooney and Grassia drove in runs in the fifth extending the Rams lead to 9-2. 

  • The Owls plated five in the top of the sixth closing the deficit to 9-7. Hannah Wodecki singled in a pair and Sarah Bingham added a three run home run. 

  • Ally Moran, who earned the victory in the circle, retired the Owls in order in the seventh to secure the victory. Moran went seven innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts. 

  • Grassia and Roode finished the game with three hits apiece.  

Game 2: Framingham State  

  • In game two, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double from McGuill. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third. Marina Cadena, Eliza Carignan and Victoria Connelly drove in runs with base hits. 

  • The Owls got on the board with five in the top of the fourth including a three run homer from Alyssa Clark. 

  • The game remained tied until the top of the tenth when the Owls were able to push across the game winning run on a Hough RBI single. 

  • Caroline Hughes started in the circle for the Rams and went five innings allowing five runs on eight hits, while Moran tossed five innings of relief and took the loss. 

  • Roode finished game two with three hits, while Carignan, Rooney and McGuill all picked up two.

The Rams are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Lasell for a pair of non-conference games beginning at 3 p.m.
