Softball Takes Two from Middlebury and Bowdoin

Clermont, Fla.  - The Framingham State University softball team swept a pair of non-conference games this morning defeating Middlebury 8-5 and Bowdoin by a score of 6-3 at Legends Way Complex.  

THE BASICS:

Framingham State 6, Bowdoin 3 

- Records: Framingham State (6-2), Middlebury (6-3)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham 8, Middlebury 5 

  • The Rams grabbed a 4-0 lead over Middlebury in the bottom of the first inning. Gianna Paolino walked with the bases loaded and after a run scored on a passed ball Eliza Carignan added a two-run double.  

  • The Rams pushed the lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second including an RBI single from Makayla Rooney. 

  • Middlebury got on the board on a two-run home run in the top of the third, but the Rams added two more in the bottom of the including another RBI hit from Rooney to lead 8-2. 

  • Middlebury plated three runs in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Audrey Gauthier earned the victory in the circle going seven innings allowing five earned runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. 

  • Rooney finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Abigail Behrikis finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. 

Game 2: Framingham 6, Bowdoin 3 

  • Bowdoin grabbed a 3-0 lead with a single run in the first and two in the second. 

 
  • The Rams finally go on the board in the top of the sixth when they plated four runs.  Rooney started off with an RBI single and Jocelyn Pepe added a run scoring base hit.  Paolino chipped in with a two-run single to cap the frame. 

  • The Rams added two more in the top of the seventh on a two-run double from Behrikis to reach the final margin. 

  • Sydney Bednarz started in the circle and did not factor in the decision going three innings allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits.  Julianna Chisholm tossed two innings of scoreless relief to earn the victory and Audrey Gauthier added two scoreless of her own to earn the save. 

  • Behrikis finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while Paolina went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Brooke Grassia also chipped in with two hits and two runs scored.

The Rams are back in action Thursday when they face Augsburg and Keuka at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.
