Softball Outlasts Bridgewater State 1-0 and 8-6

Bridgewater, Mass.  – The Framingham State University softball team scratched out a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater State University in game one before holding off the Bears the for an 8-6 game two victory to conclude the sweep today in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1 -

  • In the opener, Rams freshman Ally Moran and the Bears Madelyn Klingel were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel through the first four innings.
  • The Rams were able to scratch a run across in the top of the fifth inning.  With one out, Jacqui Schwalm and Zoe Smith singled setting the table for a Grace Swanson RBI single scoring Schwalm.
  • The Bears had runners on first and second in the bottom of the sixth.  Moran was able to work out of the inning and retired the Bears in order in the seventh to secure the 1-0 victory.
  • Moran improved to 7-1 on the year with the complete game victory in the circle. She surrendered seven hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
  • Klingel took the loss allowing one earned run on nine hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.
  • Swanson finished the game with a pair of hits and an RBI for the Rams, while Kirsten Dick went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Game 2 -

  • In game two, the Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Laela Pepin in the top of the first inning.
  • The Rams tacked on three in the top of the fourth extending the lead to 4-0.  Kelsey McGuill and Swanson delivered RBI base hits and McGuill scored on a wild pitch.
  • The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Megan Sharon and an RBI single by Emma Healy cutting the deficit to 4-2.
  • Both teams would plate four runs in the sixth inning to reach the final margin.
  • Swanson and Dick finished game two with two hits apiece and two RBI each.
  • Freshman Shannon Ward earned the victory in the circle going four and two thirds allowing two unearned runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.  Moran earned the save in game two tossing two and a third innings of relief.
