Softball and Bridgewater State Open MASCAC Slate with Split

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team was defeated 8-3 by Bridgewater State in the opener before taking game two 8-4 in six innings this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Maple Street Field.  

THE BASICS:

- Records: Framingham State (11-5, 1-1 MASCAC), Bridgewater State (8-6, 1-1 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Bridgewater 8, Framingham 3 

  • In the opener, the Bears got on the board in the top of the first, but the Rams answered with a sacrifice fly from Jocelyn Pepe in the bottom of the inning tying the game 1-1 after one. 

  • The Bears took the lead for good in the second with three runs. 

  • Brooke Grassia tripled home a run for the Rams in the bottom of the second and Abigail Behrikis added an RBI double closing the gap to 4-3 after two. 

  • The Bears extended the lead back to three in the top of the fifth and added two more in the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Audrey Gauthier took the loss in the circle for the Rams going two innings and allowing four runs, three earned on five hits. 

Game 2: Simmons 9, Framingham 6 

  • In game two, the Bears once again got on the board early and led 2-0 in the second. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit in half on an RBI single from Ava Gray in the bottom of the inning. 

  • The Bears pushed the lead back to three runs with a pair of runs in the top of the third. 

  • The Rams countered in the bottom of the inning with four runs taking the lead for good.  Behrikis plated a run with a single and Eliza Carignan added an RBI single.  Pepe chipped in with a sacrifice fly and Gianna Paolino added an RBI single to cap the frame. 

  • The Rams added three more in the bottom of the sixth to reach the final margin. 

  • Sydney Bednarz earned the victory in the circle going six innings and allowing four runs, one earned, on four hits. 

  • Grassia and Isabella MacDonald finished game two 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Carignan drove in three and recorded a pair of hits.
