Westfield State freshman pitcher Stephanie Scoville picked up her team-leading third win of the season in the nightcap, as the Owls softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Fitchburg State on Sunday.

Westfield fell by an 8-0 score in game one, and was an 11-2 victor in game two.

In the nightcap, Fitchburg State grabbed a 1-0 margin in the first inning when Julie Savone singled through the left side and crossed the plate on an RBI double to left center off the bat of Johnson.  Westfield State countered in the top of the inning as juniors Meghan Doyle (Marshfield, Mass.) and Farrah Adam (West Springfield, Mass.) each delivered run scoring singles before freshman Skylar Dutra (Mashpee, Mass,) added a two-run double down the right field line to make the score 4-1 in favor of the visitors

The Owls upped their advantage to 11-1 in the fifth, scoring seven runs with newcomer Lily Spencer (South Deerfield, Mass.) connecting on a two-run base hit to left field, while Dutra, senior Jordyn Carpenter (Mashpee, Mass,), freshman Kaeleigh Croteau (Granby, Mass.), Adam, Dutra and senior Kayla Castellano (Bethpage, N.Y.) added RBI's as well.

The Falcons cut the deficit to 11-2 in their half of the fifth when Cahill drew a lead-off walk, pinch runner Kirkconnell then advanced to second on a wild pitch and came around to score on a double from newcomer Allison Pogorek (Millbury, Mass.).

Dutra paved the way for Westfield State, going 2-for-3 with a double, one run scored and three RBI

In game one, Fitchburg State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first frame as sophomore Julianna Savone (Palm Coast, Fla.) singled to center to plate freshman Dana Cisowski (Torrington, Conn.) before junior Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) followed with a two-run single to left.  Newcomer Lauren Kirkconnell (Dayville, Conn.) added an RBI knock up the middle for the 4-0 advantage.

After a RBI double to center field off the bat of Johnson in the bottom half of the second to make the score 5-0, the Green and Gold extended their margin in the following stanza with junior Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, R.I.) notched a sacrifice fly to right that brought home Cisowski.

The Falcons capped the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with sophomore Sarah Cahill (Mansfield, Mass.) blasting a double into the left center field gap, which drove in freshman Mary Kate Moreau (Berkley, Mass.), resulting in the 8-0 final.

Johnson led the way for the Falcons in game one, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a stolen base

Sophomore Alyssa Clark (Uxbridge, Mass.) paced the Owls in the opener, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.
