Softball Takes Two from Salem State

- Records:  Framingham State (21-9, 8-0 MASCAC), Salem State (9-19, 1-7 MASCAC)

Game 1:  

• In the opener, the Vikings grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Rams used a six run second inning to open a 6-1 lead. Kelsey McGuill launched a two-run homer in the inning and Brooke Grassia added a bases clearing double. 

• Salem cut the deficit to one, 6-5, with four in the top of the fourth, but the Rams answered with four in the bottom of the inning.  Gwendolyn Carpenter chipped in an RBI double, and Angelina Lynch added a two-run single. 

• The Rams plated three in the bottom of the sixth for the run rule victory. Lynch doubled plating a run and Grassia added an RBI groundout before Lynch scored from third on a wild pitch. 

• Ally Moran earned the victory in the circle going six innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. 

• Makayla Rooney and Talia Duca finished the game with two hits apiece, while Grassia drove in four and scored once. 

• In game two, the Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on sacrifice fly from Duca. 

• The Rams extended the lead with three in the bottom of the second. Grassia reached on an error allowing Lynch to score and Rooney and Desrochers followed with RBI doubles. 

• The Rams plated four more in the bottom of the fourth to reach the run rule margin. Grassia and Desrochers tripled home runs, while Rooney doubled home another. Carpenter was robbed of a home run by a great catch in left field at the fence, but Desrochers was able to scamper home on the play with the eighth run of the game. 

• Olyvia Mendonca carried a no hitter for the Rams into the top of the fifth before her bid was broken up by a double from Mackenzie DeSantis. Mendonca earned the victory, going five shutout innings allowing just one hit with a walk and a strikeout. 

• Rooney finished the game 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Desrochers finished 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI.
