Ice Hockey Drops Back and Forth MASCAC Clash with UMD

Framingham, Mass. UMass Dartmouth's Sky Silverstein scored four times en route to a 6-5 win over Framingham State in MASCAC action Thursday evening at Loring Arena.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:   UMass Dartmouth 6, Framingham State 5 

- Records:Framingham State (2-1-0, 1-1-0 MASCAC), UMass Dartmouth (2-2-0, 1-1-0 MASCAC) 

- Location: Loring Arena Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Rams jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, in the second minute of play Elijah Slagter squeaked a wrister through Daniel Davidson's pads to go up 1-0. A few moments later Dylan Marty buried a shot in back of the net to make it 2-0.  

  • The Corsairs answered a moment later when Sky Silverstein finished off a setup from Clay Ellerbrock.  

  • Silverstein scored again a little over  halfway through the first to knot the game back at two.  

  • Silverstein registered the first period hat-trick 14 minutes into the first when he finished off a one-time pass from Clay Ellerbrock to take a 3-2 advantage.  

  • The Rams evened the score early in the second when Kaleb Kinsky grabbed a loose puck in front of the goal and sent it home on the power-play.  

  • UMD regained the lead midway through the second period on the power play when Silverstein scored his fourth of the game on a slap shot through traffic from the point. About a minute later UMD scored on another long slap shot, this time from Stephon Perreault to build their lead to 5-3.  

  • The high paced affair continued when Kaleb Kinsky scored off a helper from Slagter to cut the Rams deficit back to one goal. 

  • Framingham State scored to tie the game with just over six minutes to play when Ashton Collazo sent in a loose puck after Dylan Marty's attempt was blocked. At the five-minute mark the Rams had a breakaway while shorthanded but the shot hit the post and was cleared out of danger.  

  • UMD had an extended 5-on-3 power play that they converted on in with just over two minutes to play when Justin Weinbrenner tipped in a strike from Stephon Perreault to reach the final margin.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • Silverstein scored four times and assisted on another to lead the way for the Corsairs. Perreault had a goal and two helpers.  

  • Kinsky scored twice while Slagter and Marty each picked up a goal and two assists.  

  • Blake Carlson made 8 saves in the first period before giving way to Trevor Stenberg who turned away 11 shots.  

  • Daniel Davidson made 28 saves in the win for the Corsiars.  

UP NEXT: 

The Rams will return to the ice on Saturday when they travel to Fitchburg State for a MASCAC matchup at 4pm. UMD will travel to Plymouth State for a 7pm tilt on the same day.
