Cougars Hold on For 2-1 Win Over Men’s Soccer

Framingham, Mass. – Clark University goalkeeper Diego Marin made 11 saves including multiple in the final minutes to preserve a 2-1 win for the Cougars over Framingham State Wednesday afternoon at Maple Street Field.  

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Cougars had a good look in the opening minutes when the Rams keeper Jake Hartshorn crashed an attacking Clark forward but the chip was just high.  

  • About 10 minutes in Anyolo Makatani had a breakaway look that was saved by Hartshorn. The rebound bounced right to his feet and Hartshorn made diving to save to keep the game scoreless.  

  • Clark broke through in the 30th minute when Colin Ruiz sent in a corner that was settled and crossed by William Lopez and glanced of a Rams defender and into the net.   

  • The visitors tallied another score in the 52nd minute when Lopez sent in a missile from long range to take a 2-0 lead.  

  • The Rams had a good look in the 55th minute but Bryce Nardizzi's shot was swatted out of danger.  

  • In The 86th minute Gabriel Padilla scored off a beautiful cross from Josh Monteiro to cut the Rams deficit to one.  

  • The Rams had a number of opportunities in the final minutes but Clark keeper Diego Marin made multiple impressive saves to preserve the lead.  

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Jake Hartshorn made five saves in net for the Rams before giving way to Joe Sturzo who made three saves.  

  • Martin made 11 saves to earn the win for Clark. 

  • The Rams outshot the visitors 20-to-12 including a 15-to-5 mark in the second half.  

 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams return to action on Saturday, September 10th when they host Eastern Connecticut State in non-conference action at 2pm. The Cougars travel to Salve Regina for a non-conference game at 1pm on Saturday.
