Softball Splits Two with Salem State

Salem, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team dropped game one 3-2 before rallying for a 9-0 five inning victory over Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader this afternoon. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Salem State 3, Framingham State 2 
Framingham State 9, Salem State 0 (5 Innings) 

- Records: Framingham State (13-11, 8-2 MASCAC), Salem State (9-15, 5-5 MASCAC) 

- Location: Alumni Field Worcester, Mass. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Salem State 3, Framingham State 2 

  • In the opener, Salem State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but the Rams tied the game in the top of the fourth on an RBI double from Brooke Grassi. 

  • The Vikings reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. 

  • The Rams loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but could only push across one run as the Vikings held on for the victory. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss in the circle going six innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts. 

  • Grassia finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Victoria Connelly went 1-for-2 with an RBI.  

Game 2: Framingham State 9, Salem State 0 (5 Innings) 

  • In game two, The Rams tallied a single run in the first on an RBI fielder's choice from Grassia and a single run in the second on an RBI fielder's choice from Makayla Rooney. 

  • The Rams tacked on three in the third including an RBI single from Talia Duca. 

  • Shelby Roode delivered a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth before the Rams added three more in the top of the sixth to reach the final margin. 

  • Gwendolyn Carpenter went 2-for-3 in the game with a double and two runs scored, while Roode and Rooney drove in two runs apiece.

The Rams are back in action Thursday when they host Johnson and Wales for a pair of non-conference games beginning at 3 p.m.
