Volleyball Extends Win-Streak to Three Games with 3-1 Win Over Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Junior outside hitter Jayla Parnell registered a career single-game high 25 kills as Simmons volleyball (5-5) climbed back to .500 with a 3-1 win over Westfield State on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Simmons 25, Westfield State 17
Parnell was red-hot out of the gate, hitting .462 with seven kills on 13 attempts with one error to help the Sharks take a 1-0 match advantage taking the first set, 25-17. Fellow outside hitter Sydney Iannantuono followed up with three kills, while junior setter Kat Simeonidis paced the offense with nine assists.

Set 2: Westfield State 25, Simmons 22
The Owls answered in the second set and tied up the match, edging out the Sharks, 25-22. Ashley Crowe led the way with four kills, while Bridgette McAndrews came through tallying three kills on seven attempts.

Set 3: Simmons 25, Westfield State 19
Momentum swung back over to the Sharks bench in the third set. Hitting .364 as a team, Simmons took the 2-1 match lead with a convincing 25-19 third set win. Parnell was nearly unstoppable from the outside, notching eight kills on 12 attempts with just one miscue for a staggering .583 attack percentage.

Set 4: Simmons 30, Westfield State 28
The Sharks overcame a five-point deficit three times and avoided going to a fifth game. Battling back to take a 17-16 lead on an ace by Parnell, turned a potential win for the Owls into a barn-burner.

But Westfield State tied it back at 25 after a service error by the Sharks. The two teams exchanged the lead three times before Iannantuono gave the Sharks the 29-28 lead and they never looked back.
