Women's Lacrosse Wins Season Opener on the Road against Thomas Terriers

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Buccaneers women's lacrosse team opened their 2025 season in Maine on Saturday against Thomas College and brought a win home to Maritime thanks to five goals each from captains Lindsy Durgin and Allie Dickinson.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Senior captains Lindsy Durgin and Allie Dickinson scored five goals each in the game.
  • Freshman Karah Deveau scored her first two collegiate goals and had two assists.
  • Freshman Tessa Hinds netted her first career goal in the win. 
  • Senior captain Caleigh Tompkins led the Bucs in ground balls with four in the game.

Thomas

  • Isabella Pelletier, Mara Gentry, Mary Larochelle, and Emily Wallingford all scored twice in the loss for the Terriers. 
  • Gentry and Larochelle each had an assist in the game.
  • Larochelle led all players with five ground balls and had a team-high four draw controls.
  • Defensively, Larochelle and Wallingford both had a team-high three caused turnovers for the team.

 

How It Happened

Durgin opened the scoring for the Bucs in the first quarter with a goal less than four minutes in. Wallingford followed that up with a Terrier goal on a power play to tie the game at 1-1 with just under 10 minutes to play in the first. Of the next draw, Durgin netter her second goal of the game and then scored again three minutes later on a Bucs power play to put Maritime up 3-1. Durgin scored again less than a minute after her third goal to extend the Bucs lead to 4-1 and the scoring run to three Durgin goals in a row. Larochelle broke up the Bucs scoring run with two goals in the final 5:30 of the quarter to bring the Terriers within one goal, 4-3, at the end of the first period of play.

In the second, Dickinson scored her first of the game and the season to extend the lead for Maritime back out to two goals. Pelletier then scored her first to make the score 5-4. The Maritime freshmen combo of Deveau and Hinds each scored at 6:35 and 0:52 respectively to give the Buccaneers a three-goal, 7-4, advantage at the halftime break. 

To start the second half, Gentry scored for the Terriers which was followed by Deveau's second goal of the game on a free position power play situation and Dickinson followed suit at 4:51 of the quarter on a pass from DEveau to give the Bucs a four-goal lead, 9-5. Thomas closed out the quarter with Gentry's second of the game on a power play and the Terriers trailed the Bucs at the end of three quarters, 9-6. 

Dickinson took over for the Bucs in the fourth quarter with three goals. She scored the first of the quarter at 9:38 on a power play to get the Buccaneers to double digits, 10-6. She scored again less than two minutes later to give Maritime a five-goal lead, 11-6. Wallingford scored again for the hosts at 7:22 to make the score 11-7. Durgin scored her fifth and final goal of the day at 6:04 which was followed by Dickinson's fifth and final goal at 3:02 to give Maritime a 13-7 advantage. Pelletier added one more for the Terriers with 36 seconds left but the Bucs left Waterville with the win, 13-8, to open their season with a win.

The Buccaners take the field again on Wednesday, March 5th against Nichols College in their home opener at Clean Harbors stadium at 7pm.
