How It Happened

Maritime found themselves leading early in the first set, 4-2, but that lead was quickly erased by MCLA with a 5-0 run to go up 7-4. Their run continued after a point for the Bucs with the 'Blazers extending their lead to 14-5. Allowing just four more points to the Bucs in the set, MCLA finished off the game with a 10-4 run winning 25-9 and taking a 1-0 lead.

In set two, MCLA opened up with an 8-4 run. For the second set in a row, the Bucs couldn't grab the momentum back from the Trailblazers, unable to come back within six points at any point. Maritime got up to 17 points but not before MCLA took the set, 25-17, and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

The Buccaneers took the momentum in set three and gave MCLA a battle. Early in the game the Bucs led but only by two. By the middle of the set the Bucs held an 11-9 lead. They extended their lead from that point going up seven points, 19-12. Then, up 20-14, the Bucs momentum seemed to slip to the other side of the court with MCLA going on a six-point run to tie the set up at 20-20. Maritime retook the lead, 21-20, which was erased by the 'Blazers. Then, after a MCLA service error and with Stark serving, the Buccaneers scored three unanswered to take the set, 25-21, and make it 2-1 in the match.

In the fourth set, MCLA ran out to a 13-6 lead midway through the game. The Bucs sprinkled in points but could only get within six, 18-12, late in the set. Maritime could only muster one more point in the set and MCLA scored the final seven points they needed to take the game, 25-13, and the match, 3-1.
