White and Houston Knock in Three; Zchau earns win in Victory over Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass -- The Buccaneers had a quick turnaround from their conference series against Westfield over the weekend and travled to Nichols College to take on the Bison Monday afternoon. The Bucs offense exploded for 10 runs in the 10-1 win over the Bison.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Damon White went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Bucs. Jake Houston and Brett Velzis added two hits. Aaron ColeEvan Vieira, and AJ Pietrafesa had one.
  • White drove in four runs in the win, and Houston had three RBI. Cole, Pietrafesa, and Velzis drove in one.
  • Pietrafesa, Velzis, and Houston scored twice. Cole, Vieira, White, and Michael Logiudice scored once.
  • Houston hit his first career home run in the game, and Velzis recorded two doubles.

Nichols

  • Ryan Keating had two hits in the game. Six other Bison recorded a hit.
  • Stanley Cipkas drove in the only Bison run in the game. 
  • Collin Harty scored the run.
  • Ben Jerome, Karl Miller, and Sean McGee had stolen bases.

 

How It Happened

Nichols scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a Cipkas single that drove in Harty to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. 

The Bison lead lasted until the fourth when the Bucs tied the game on a White RBI single to drive in Pietrafesa. 

In the top of the fifth, Maritime added three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Cole singled in Houston, Cole scored on a Nichols error, and Velzis hit a sacrifice fly that drove in Vieira. 

The Buccaneers extended their lead in the seventh on another White RBI single that brought in Velzis. The Bucs led 5-1 after seven.

In the top of the ninth, the Bucs put the cherry on top, adding five runs. White singled to drive in Velzis and Pietrafesa, and Houston hit his first career home run, of the three-run variety, to put the Bucs up 10-1. Wooley finished his four inning save in the ninth retiring the Bison to finish the Bucs 10-1 win on the road.

Maritime travels to the Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday for a game with the Bears at 3:30 pm.
