Women's Soccer Posts Historic Totals in Commanding Win over MCLA
Lina Arlander and Jenny Montville tally twice apiece in Leopards' dominant 8-0 win over Trailblazers; program sets new record with 51 shots
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team (1-2) notched their first win of the 2024 season in record-setting fashion Wednesday night, scorching MCLA (0-2) by an 8-0 score in non-conference play.
The Leopards' eight goals ties a program record for the most goals in a single game, with the feat being last accomplished back in 2010. Their 51 shots set a new program record. Lina Arlander and Jenny Montville led the scoresheet with two tallies each, while Brianna Reid notched three assists, tying a program record for most assists in a game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Arlander gave Wentworth a 1-0 lead at the 13:56 mark, capitalizing on an initial shot off the far post. Just over ten minutes later, Madelyn Seder tallied, giving the Black & Gold a 2-0 advantage, off a corner kick from Reid.
- At the 32:52 mark, Lily Carlson added to the Leopards' lead off of another shot that rang the post. Rachel Hagerty pushed the lead to four with her first collegiate goal at the 41:56 mark off of another Reid corner kick.
- Montville scored her first of the night streaking down the middle just 26 seconds after Hagerty's tally. With 22 seconds left in the first half, Kayla Heister scored her first collegiate goal to give the Leopards a 6-0 lead.
- Arlander extended Wentworth's lead to seven with her second goal of the night at the 62:55 mark. Montville scored her second in the 76th minute to push the Leopards' lead to 8-0.
- Shyla Kulesza earned the win with her start while Claire Reif made three saves in relief in her first action of the season. Wentworth dominated advantages in shots (51-5) and corner kicks (8-0).
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked the first-ever matchup between the two teams.
