Women’s Soccer falls to Framingham State 1-0

Framingham, MA- First year Alicia Tocman's (Brockton, MA) goal in the 18th minute would stand as the game winner and give Framingham State the 1-0 MASCAC victory over MCLA this afternoon at Maple Street Field. With the result the Rams improve to 2-9-1 (2-2 MASCAC) while the Trailblazers fall to 1-7-2 (0-3-1 MASCAC).

It appeared as though Framingham State had scored in the 10th minute when sophomore Hailey Baker (Peabody, MA) found Tocman near the top of the box and she fired a right-footed shot that seemed destined for the goal as it snuck under the diving Trailblazer senior keeper Jillian Currier (Troy, NY). Fortunately for MCLA the shot hit the left post and senior Jess Halverson (Adams, MA) cleared the rebound out of harm's way.

But the Trailblazer's good fortune was short-lived. Eight minutes later a Framingham State corner kick by first year Grayson Tellier (Auburn, NH) would deflect off sophomore teammate Victoria Potter (Rutland, MA) and find Tocman who buried the shot in the back of the net for her first career goal to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

MCLA would threaten to tie the contest late in the 86th minute when senior Savanna Amaral (Seekonk, MA) sent in first year Eva Bassallo (Petersburgh, NY) with one Framingham State defender to beat. Bassallo cutback and shook the defender to free herself for a short-side attempt, but Ram sophomore goalkeeper Jetta Oskirko (Lancaster, MA) was up to the task making the save and preserved the 1-0 victory.

Oskirko earned the shutout making 4 saves and improves to 2-7 on the season. Trailblazer keeper Jillian Currier made 9 saves but takes the loss falling to 1-7.

Framingham State enjoyed a decisive advantage in both shots (24-5) and corners (8-1).

Framingham State's next match will be on Wednesday as they travel to take on Lesley University for a 7pm kick off. MCLA will next host Bryant & Stratton (Albany) on Tuesday at 6pm.
