Pride Open Home Schedule with 13-7 Victory

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College played on its home field for the first time during the 2020 season, using two four-goal stretches and one five-goal scoring run to defeat Salem State University, 13-7, Tuesday night in a non-conference women's collegiate lacrosse match at Regis Stadium.

Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) once again led the Pride offensively with five goals and eight draw controls, while Amelia Thomas (Hopkinton, N.H.) dished out four assists to go along with four ground balls and two draw controls. Thomas also scored twice, as did Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) and Jordyn Ringuette (Colchester, Conn.), while Brooke Greatorex (Gorham, Maine) and Meghan Sargent (Brattleboro, Vt.) led the Pride defense with three caused turnovers each.

Salem State struck first just 1:23 into the contest on a goal by Kirsten Bradley. The Pride would get into gear offensively by scoring the next four goals, as Thomas and Anselmo collected two goals apiece during that stretch.

The Vikings took advantage of a Regis penalty, as Mackenzie Schmink scored to cut the Salem State deficit to 4-2. The Pride quickly answered with three goals in the span of 1:19, starting with a tally from Ross off an assist by Anselmo. Thomas would set up the following two goals, as Ringuette and Ross each put the ball in the net.

Anselmo completed her hat trick with 8:05 remaining in the first half, but Salem State eventually struck again thanks to a goal by Marissa McClellan. The Pride would conclude the half with two goals just 16 seconds apart, as Bridget Dowling (Hanover, Mass.) scored off an assist by Thomas and Anselmo quickly followed with her fourth goal of the night, extending the Regis lead to 10-3 at halftime.

The Pride continued to extend their advantage by scoring the first three goals of the second half, starting with a tally from Ringuette off another Thomas assist. Anselmo notched her fifth goal of the game, and then Bella Oliver (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) picked up her first goal of the season with 12:40 remaining in regulation.

The Vikings never stopped battling back, collecting the final four goals of the contest. McClellan earned two of those goals to complete her hat trick, while Tara McLaughlin and Bradley were responsible for the other Salem State tallies late in the match.

Besides her two goals, Bradley led the Vikings with five draw controls, while Suzanne Stefanik led all players with seven ground balls. Salem State goalie Charlotte Orth finished with 11 saves, and Pride goalie Brittany McPherson (Lynn, Mass.) collected six saves during the contest.
