Women's Volleyball: Falcons take two at Mass Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, MASS. – The Fisher College Women's Volleyball team capped off the four game week with a pair of victories today over Dean College and Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a tri-match hosted by the Buccaneers. The wins lift the Falcons to an overall record of 5-2 while the Bulldogs slide to 2-4 and Mass Maritime falls to 1-4 on the season. Dean topped MMA in the opening match, 3-0.

Game Two: Fisher College 3, Dean College 1 (Final)

It was battle in the first set however the Falcons were able to come all the way back and take the final three sets to win the contest by set scores of 24-26, 25-12, 25-15, and 25-14.

Senior Macy Barnes (Duarte, Calif.) was a dominate force as she recorded the game-high 25 kills and 20 digs to lead the Falcons. Classmates Aya Al-Juraishi (Walnut, Calif.) and Ashly Velazquez (Downey, Calif.) each provided additional help with 8 and 7 winners, respectively. Sophomore setter Paola Velazquez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) dished out 36 assists and fellow sophomore Edsyl Irizarry (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) collected a game-high 28 digs along the backline. Senior Natalia Ortiz (Humacao, Puerto Rico) also shined bright defensively as she scooped up 10 digs in the win.

Dean was paced by senior Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas), who finished the contest with a team-high six kills. Sophomore Emily Ball (Feeding Hills, Mass.) added five kills and classmate Emily Larouche (Agawam, Mass.) chipped in with four winners. Junior Bella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) handed out 15 helpers on the afternoon and freshman Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, Mass.) totaled 14 digs. Larouche and sophomore Jordan Herivaux (Pawtucket, R.I.) also played well on the back end as they collected 13 digs each.

Game Three: Fisher College 3, Massachusetts Maritime 0 (Final)

Rounding out the afternoon, the Falcons earned a three-set victory over the host Buccaneers by set scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-13.

Ashly Velazquez recorded a .474 hitting percentage with 10 kills and Barnes added a game-high 13 kills with a .448 hitting percentage to pace the Fisher offense. Paola Velazquez handed out 20 assists and Irizarry totaled 19 digs.

Mass. Maritime was led by freshman Shayla Narodowg (Wellington, Colo.), who hammered down eight kills, while the trio of freshman Keira Whalen (Philadelphia, Pa.), junior Izabella Mackintosh (Plymouth, Mass.), and sophomore Marlo Stark (Groton, Conn.) all added three kills apiece in the loss. Whalen was the assist leader with 13 and sophomore Audrey Manning (Hanover, Mass.) helped on the defensive end with a team-high 13 digs.

The Falcons will return to action on Tuesday evening as they travel down Beacon Street for a 7pm date at Emmanuel College. Mass. Maritime will host Salem State University in their next scheduled contest on Wednesday evening while Dean College travels down to Mitchell College on Tuesday night.
