Frymire scores late, Women’s Soccer draws 1-1

Cobleskill, NY- MCLA's first year forward Cidnee Frymire (Tonawanda, NY) scored in the 84th minute to help earn the Trailblazers a hard fought 1-1 draw this afternoon in a nonconference match at SUNY Cobleskill. With the result, Cobleskill moves to 1-3-1, while MCLA improves to 1-3.

The Tigers would open the scoring in the 14th minute as freshman Ashlynn DeRonda (Saugerties, NY) took advantage of an MCLA turnover in the defensive third.  DeRonda was able to gain control of the mishandled ball, break in alone and put it past Trailblazer senior keeper Jillian Currier (Troy, NY) for the early Cobleskill 1-0 lead.

The Tigers almost iced the game in the 82nd minute when junior Julia Howard (Elizaville, NY) picked off an MCLA pass, dribbled through three defenders and let a shot go from just left of the goal mouth. Fortunately for the Trailblazers, Currier was up to the task making a clutch kick save keeping the deficit at one.

Less than a minute later it was Frymire who found the ball at her feet after outhustling a Cobleskill defender just outside the D. Frymire turned and fired but it was right at the keeper and easily handled.

MCLA would cause another turnover on the ensuing Cobleskill possession as senior Claudia Bresett (Adams, MA) dispossessed the Tiger dribbler, and got it to classmate Sarah Tomczyk (Plainville, CT) in the middle of the field. Tomczyk's one touch pass straight ahead found Frymire who was in almost the exact position of the first year's previous shot attempt. This time Frymire took more time and created some space to the right before turning and launching the game tying goal over the keeper's outstretched arms from nearly 30 yards out. It was Frymire's first career goal.

The Tigers would have the advantage in shots (17-9) and corners (4-2).

Cobleskill freshman goalkeeper Brianna Rogers (Canton, NY) stopped 5 MCLA shots and moves to 1-2-1. Jillian Currier made 9 saves and improves to 0-3-1.

Cobleskill's next match will be Saturday as they travel to SUNY Canton. MCLA will be on the road this Saturday as well as they kick off their conference schedule against MASCAC rival Worcester State in a 12pm match.
