Volleyball cruises to 4-set win over Mass Maritime

Buzzards Bay, MA- The MCLA Volleyball team cruised to a 4-set MASCAC victory over Mass Maritime this afternoon 25-9, 25-17, 21-25, 25-13. With the win the Trailblazers improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in league play. The Buccaneers fell to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the MASCAC.

Tied at 4-all early in the 1st set, MCLA used a dominating 20-3 run to separate themselves and jump out to a 1-0 set advantage. Up 8-6 in the 2nd, the Trailblazers would use a more modest 8-2 run to pull away at 16-8. That eight-point cushion would prove to be the difference as MCLA would take the set 25-17.

Though down 20-14 in the 3rd set, after reeling off six straight points it looked like the Trailblazers were poised to close out the match. Mass Maritime would battle however and end up pulling out the set 25-21 to avoid the sweep.

Up 6-5 in the 4th, MCLA shifted into overdrive finish the set with a 19-8 run to win it 25-13, and to close out the Bucs 3 sets to 1.

Sophomore standout Chloie Garber (Eagle River, AK) would lead the way for MCLA with 15 kills and 33 digs. First year Anais Badio (Las Vegas, NV) would finish with 7 kills, 7 digs and 6 service aces while classmates Shannon O'Brien (Unionville, CT) (12 digs, 17 assists) and Elizabeth Brown (Lee, MA) (5 kills, 18 digs) also made strong contributions to the win. Sophomore Ellie Walter-Goodspeed (Auburn, WA) also finished with 21 digs.

This Wednesday will see both teams return to MASCAC play as Mass Maritime travels to Framingham State for a 7pm match and MCLA hosts Fitchburg State at 6:30pm.
