HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth put pressure on Salem State in the early going, putting four shots on target in a four and a half minute span, including two from sophomore Christopher Jimenez (Doral, Fla.). Salem State had a chance in the 18th minute when a Viking shot was headed towards the goal but cleared away by Leopard senior Erik Treble (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and, two and a half minutes later, Quintero made a save off a header.
  • The teams traded shots in the 28th and 29th minutes and sophomore Raphael Ribero (Medford, Mass.) put a shot on net in the 38th minute. However, the game remained scoreless at the half.
  • Salem State had three corner kicks in a 30-second span early in the second half with Treble coming up with a defensive stop on the third. Wentworth had a corner kick in the 51st minute which eventually led to the only goal of the game.
  • At the 51:17 mark, senior Augustin Edwin, Jr. (New Bedford, Mass.) fed a pass to Dukeshire, who headed the pass from just outside of the box to give the Black & Gold a 1-0 lead. In the 68th minute, Jimenez nearly made it 2-0 but his bid hit the crossbar and bounced out.
  • Quintero made three saves in a span of 3:45, keeping his team on top. The Vikings had a pair of corner kicks late in the game but were unable to generate a scoring chance on either.

THE SERIES:

  • Tonight was the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams with the series now even at 2-all. It was the third time the game was decided by one goal.
