Freshmen lead MCLA Women past Maritime 6-1

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Soccer team ran its winning streak to four games as they defeated Mass Maritime 6-1 this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  Five different Trailblazers collected goals as they controlled the play throughout the match.  With the win, MCLA moves to 9-3 overall, including a 3-1 mark in conference play.  Maritime falls to 0-10.

MCLA, winners of nine of their last ten, scored first when freshmen Lindsay Borbolla (Greenwich, NY) netted her seventh goal of the season in the 21st minute of play taking a feed from Harmony McGorman (Orleans, MA).  MCLA kept the pressure on and found the net again as a Maritime defender blocked a cross, however it veered towards the near post for an own goal.  Another Freshman, Kasie Harrington (Dalton, MA), found the net in the 25th minute as she scored an unassisted tally.  Sophomore Lauren Ford (Voorheesville, NY) would round out the first half scoring as she blasted home a direct kick from 30 yards out.

In the second half, MCLA kept pressuring the Maritime backfield.  They were able to add two more goals as freshmen Keisha Devoe (Haverhill, MA) and Lauren Fender (Plymouth, MA) collected their first collegiate points.  Devoe tallied an assist on Fender's goal.

Maritime scored in the 87th minute when Vanessa DiDomenico handled a fumbled ball in the box.

MCLA freshman keeper Kate Tsapatsaris earned her first win as she played a scoreless first half.  Rachel Johnson suffered the defeat in goal for Maritime.  She recorded 22 saves on the afternoon.

MCLA is back in action next Saturday when they host Framingham State at 1:00pm.
