Women’s Soccer falls to Sage 3-0

Albany, NY- Unable to mount any sustainable offensive possession or pressure, MCLA found itself under constant attack this afternoon as they were shutout in Albany 3-0 by Sage College. The Gators earned their fist win of the season improving to 1-2-1. MCLA fell to 0-3.

After applying steady pressure from the opening kick, Sage broke through in the 27th minute when junior Kennedy Jones (Albany, NY) took a pass from first year Katelyn Odorizzi (Voorheesville, NY) near the top off the box, was able to emerge from traffic on the right side and beat MCLA senior keeper Jillian Currier (Troy, NY) to put the Gators up 1-0.

MCLA nearly pulled even in the 37th minute when junior Anna Lewis (North Monmouth, ME) was able to pick a ball out of the air and sail it towards goal. Unfortunately for the Trailblazers it clanged off the post and bounced out of harm's way.

Despite several excellent scoring chances, keeper Jillian Currier kept the Gators at bay and MCLA was able to head to the locker room only down 1-0.

However, Sage turned up the pressure in the second half and scored twice early as junior Aimee Warman (Rexford, NY) in the 47th minute and Katelyn Odorizzi in the 49th minute both found the back of the net increasing the Gator lead to 3-0.

Sage outshot MCLA 31-7 putting 15 on net. The Gators also held the advantage in corners 10-2.

Sage keeper Emma DeMatteo (Groton, NY) made 5 saves earning the win and moved to 1-0. Despite making 12 saves, Currier took the loss and dropped to 0-3.

MCLA's nonconference slate continues Tuesday as they travel to SUNY Cobleskill for a 4pm match with the Tigers.
