Volleyball: Bucs Held off by Lancers on the Road

WORCESTER, Mass -- The Buccaneers and Lancers met in Worcester on Friday evening for a MASCAC Match. The Bucs fell behind 2-0 and battled hard in the third set but were unable to hold their lead as the Lancers took the third set to win 3-0.

  • Cassandra Millea and Gabby Alberghini each had seven kills to lead the Lancers.
  • Angela Colonis had a match-high 18 assists in the win. 
  • Megan Bardis recorded four aces.
  • Defensively, Camryn Burgio had 15 digs to lead all players. 
  • Maeve Cadogan had the only solo block for the Lancers. 
  • Alberghini had four block assists, Cadogan and Kate Stedronsky each had two block assists.

How It Happened

Though the Lancers never trailed in the first set, the Bucs kept it close after falling behind 3-0. On a service error by Worcester, Maritime tied the game up at 9-9. From there, the Lancers took control of the set outscoring the Bucs 16-5 down the stretch to win the game 25-14.

In set two, the Lancers came out swinging and the Bucs couldn't get into the set as Worcester won the set, 25-10. 

In set three, the Buccaneers made a case for a fourth set, taking an early 3-1 lead and maintaining the momentum and lead for most of the game. Late on, the Lancers made a comeback and retook the lead at 21-20. Maritime couldn't get back into it and the Lancers took the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.

The Buccaneers will travel to Fitchburg State on Wednesday, October 19th for a 7pm conference match with the Falcons.
