Baseball earns first win of 2020, splits DH with Cobleskill at Baseball Heaven

Yaphank, NY- The MCLA Baseaball team completed their season opening four game series with SUNY Cobleskill this afternoon at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, NY.  The Trailblazers earned their first win of 2020 with a 13-6 game one win.  The Fighting Tigers rallied past MCLA 10-9 in eight innings in the nightcap.  Cobleskill took the series as they improve to 6-2 on the season.  The Trailblazers close the weekend at 1-3.

Game One-

MCLA jumped out early in this one as they scored five runs in the top of the first and never looked back.  The Trailblazers sent nine batters to the plate as Austin Rachiele and Ben Durland opened up with consecutive walks.  Christian Seariac then belted a double to score two and Christian Womble followed with a two bagger of his own, MCLA led 4-0.  The Trailblazers would tack on another run for starter William Leino to make it 5-0.

MCLA added a single run in the second as Rachiele stole a pair of bases and came around on a groundout.  The Trailblazers blew the game open with another five run outburst in the third.  Dillon Maxon had the key hit while Rachiele drove in another in the frame.

Leino got the start and held Cobleskill at bay through the first three innings.  He earned the win.  Rachiele reached base four times and led the team with three hits.

Game Two-

MCLA followed a similar script in game two.  They scored four times in the first and four more in the second to take an early 8-0 advantage.  Rachiele led off with a home run to start things off and Jake Ferrara delivered a key hit in the first inning.  

In the Trailblazer second, Womble delivered a run scoring hit to increase the lead to 8-0 before Cobleskill would rally as the MCLA offense went silent over the final five frames.

The Fighting Tigers chipped away and scored a single run in the second and two more in the third slice the lead to 8-3.  MCLA added a solo run in the fourth before Cobleskill added two more to cut it to 9-5 after four innings.

Cobleskill scored three times in the sixth inning to get within one at 9-8 before tying things up at 9-9 in the home seventh.  After holding MCLA scoreless in the 8th, they won it in the bottom of the inning to walk off with the win.
