Women’s Soccer Falls at Salem State, 2-0

SALEM, Mass.—The MCLA Women's Soccer Team took to the road this afternoon for a matinee MASCAC meeting with the Salem State Vikings. Two Trailblazers goalkeepers combined for 16 saves, but Salem State's 25-7 edge in shots and an 18-5 edge in shots on goal was too much for MCLA to overcome.

- Records: MCLA Trailblazers 2-11-0 (MASCAC 1-4-0) | Salem State Vikings 4-7-2 (MASCAC 2-2-1)
- Series History: Salem State leads the all-time series 30-6-3, including a 1-0 win last season in North Adams on October 14, 2023. MCLA took the first-ever meeting between the teams by a score of 2-1 on October 11, 1986, in North Adams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The beginning of the game was played largely in MCLA's defensive end, with Salem State enjoying a 6-1 advantage in shots at the time of their first goal. The goal was off of a corner kick from Sydney Durkin that found Savannah Scrodin standing on the PK line, where she popped the ball over the outreached hands of the Trailblazer keeper. The Vikings carried that 1-0 lead into halftime on the strength of a 15-2 edge in shots.
- The second half saw the field remain tilted to the Salem State side of the field as the Vikings again outshot MCLA 10-5 before adding an insurance goal with less than a minute to play. Krysta Zamejtis scored the goal from just inside the top of the 18-yard box.
- Ava Guyer won for Salem State, improving her record to 4-7-2. Despite stopping nine first-half shots, first-year keeper Destiny Alexandra Rivas' (Leicester, MA) record fell to 1-3-0 for the Trailblazers. Fellow first-year goalie Mallory Amirian (Haverhill, MA) added another seven second-half saves in a relief effort.
UP NEXT:
On Friday, MCLA will be back in action when they play host to Fitchburg State for a MASCAC matchup with the Falcons at Shewcraft Field. The teams will take the pitch for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
