Regis Men’s Soccer Wins in Home Opener

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College controlled the pace of the game in its 2-1 victory over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Regis Stadium.

Regis first scored in the 22nd minute of play when Luke Ayotte's (Cromwell, Conn.) corner kick found Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.), who headed the ball into the right side of the net for the Pride's first goal of the season.

Massachusetts Maritime evened the score just two-and-a-half minutes later when Luke Twomey's pass set up a one-on-one situation between Ryan Soughou and Regis goalie Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.), with Soughou chipping the ball over Beckmann's head for the Buccaneer goal.

The game-winner came early in the second half when Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.) crossed the ball from the right side of the field over to Aiden Falvey (Medford, Mass.), whose shot found the net to give the Pride a 2-1 advantage.

Beckmann finished the game with one save while the Pride outshot their opponent 15-4, taking eight corner kicks compared to Massachusetts Maritime's two corner kicks. Buccaneer keeper Quinn Kelly finished with four saves, two in each half.

Regis College (1-0) next travels to Lexington, Mass., where they'll take on Lesley University Wednesday, Sept. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. Massachusetts Maritime (0-1) hosts Suffolk University in a Labor Day matinee Monday, Sept. 5, starting at 3 p.m.
