Women's Basketball Locks Down Trailblazers in Home Triumph

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Maddy Foster (Lewiston, Maine) recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds and, defensively, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team forced MCLA to shoot 31.1 percent from the floor as the Leopards defeated the Trailblazers, 52-32, Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • With the score tied at 2-all less than a minute into the contest, Wentworth used a 9-0 run, taking an 11-2 lead on a senior Adriana Busbey (Palmer, Alaska) transition layup with 6:01 left. Despite being held scoreless for the remainder of the first quarter, the Leopards only surrendered six points and had an 11-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
  • Foster's layup with 7:21 left in the second quarter ended a scoring drought of 10:40 and started an 8-0 run which have the Black & Gold a 19-8 lead with 4:32 left. During the run, Foster had six of the eight Wentworth points with junior Nattaly David (Hyde Park, Mass.) scoring as well. MCLA tallied the next two baskets to make it 19-13 with 3:45 left, however, Foster answered with a layup start started a 9-0 run and gave Wentworth a 28-13 lead at the break. In the second quarter the Black & Gold shot 50 percent from the floor and held MCLA to just 20 percent.
  • The Leopards led by as many as 19 on two occasions in the third quarter, including on a transition layup from Foster with 5:35 left. The Trailblazers got the team to 13 with 2:16 left but four straight Foster points put the hosts ahead, 40-23, after three quarters of action.
  • MCLA was not able to get any closer than 15 in the fourth quarter, a margin the Trailblazers got to four times, most recently with 2:40 left. Freshman Tita Rana (Boston, Mass.) had five points and three steals in the final 2:40 to help lock down the win.
  • Wentworth had a 41-32 rebounding advantage on the game.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today was the second all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth has won both meetings.
