BucBall drops two to Framingham at Home to Open Season

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The Buccaneer baseball team took the field for the first time since March 12th on Saturday. It was their first home game in nearly 700 days as they never played a home game before the 2020 stoppage. On Saturday, they hosted Framingham State and dropped both games, 9-0 and 1-0.

 

Game One

  • The Bucs Registered three hits, all singles, in game one. The Hits came off the bats of Frank Aten (Brockton, Mass), Braden Killens (Marshfield, Mass), and John Tropea (East Sandwich, Mass).
  • Four players, Ben Paine (Dartmouth, Mass), Zach Sylvia (Brockton, Mass), Michael Doyle (Boston, Mass), and Tropea each reached base by way of a free pass.

 

Framingham State

  • The Rams compiled nine hits in the first game in including multi-hit games from Robert Higgins, Robert Johnston, Andrew Caulfield, and Nick Simonenko. John Fontecchio has the other hit in the game.
  • Caulfield drove in four runs for the visitors including two on a home run in the seventh inning. Johnston and Simonenko each drove in two.
  • Ryan Boyle and Johnston recorded three walks apiece with Anthony Herman and Fontecchio each walking twice. Shortstop Matt Shaver reach base by way of a walk once as well.
  • Johnston scored for the team three times, Higgins and Caulfield scored twice. Fontecchio and Shaver each crossed the plate once.
  • Boyle and Herman each stole a base for the Rams in game one.

 

How It Happened

The Rams struck in the top of the first on a Caulfield sacrifice fly to right field that scored Johnston. The 1-0 advantage for the Rams held until the fourth inning.

In the fourth, The Rams got to Teehan again after he had gotten through the last two innings with trouble but no runs. The Rams plated two in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead over the Bucs.

With Teehan out of the game after 5 innings of work and 10 strikeouts, Framingham scored three off of Wooster in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead.

In the seventh, the Rams scored three more, including the two from Caulfield's aforementioned homerun. The Bucs were unable to get on the board in the bottom of the seventh and dropped game one 9-0.

With the loss, Maritime falls to 0-1 on the year. Framingham improved to 3-4 with the win.

At The Plate

Mass Maritime

  • The Buccaneers compiled two hits in game two; a double off the bat of Ben Paine and a single from Dylan Sullo.
  • John Tropea recorded the only walk of the game which didn't come until the sixth inning.

 

Framingham

  • The Rams received four hits from four players in game two. Johnston, Caulfield, Kevin Girardin, and Simonenko each had a hit. Caulfield's was of the double variety.
  • Ryan Boyle drove in the lone run of the game which was Caulfield in the same innings as his double.
  • Robert Johnston and Matt Shaver each were successful in sacrifice bunt attempts.
  • Higgins, Johnston, Kyle Bolger, and Shaver each recorded a walk.

 

How It Happened

There wasn't too much action in game two offensively. There were six combined hits, five combined walks and only one run scored. Though the Rams did leave eight runners on base in the game, including when they left the bases loaded against Parks late in the game.

In the fourth inning, Boyle singled through the right side to bring Caulfield in to score.

The Buccaneers were unable to even the score and dropped game two, 1-0.

With the loss the Bucs fall to 0-2. The Ram improve to 4-4 on the season with the win.

 

What's Next?

The Buccaneers will be on the road next Saturday to take on the Westfield State Owls in double header action beginning at 12pm.
