Women’s Soccer draws with NVU Lyndon, 0-0

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's soccer team dominated play throughout the match tonight but were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against nonconference foe NVU Lyndon. With the result the Hornets end their 2022 campaign with a 2-10-3 record while MCLA moves to 2-9-3.

Through a scoreless first half it was the Trailblazers who carried most of the play with the two best scoring opportunities both belonging to MCLA senior Sarah Tomczyk (Plainville, CT). In the 27th minute Tomczyk put a header just high off a first year Cidnee Frymire (Tonawanda, NY) corner kick and in the final minute of the half, Tomczyk would lace a free kick attempt from 25 yards out forcing Hornet junior keeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH) to punch the ball over the crossbar.

The second half would see the MCLA pressure intensify. In the 54th minute thanks to two well placed balls by seniors Savanna Amaral (Seekonk, NH) and Jess Halverson (Adams, MA), it was Frymire who had a pair of quality chances to break the tie, but Cordwell was up to the task on both attempts.

Later, Amaral would send in Claudia Bresett (Adams, MA) all alone in the 64th minute but the senior was unable to get enough pace on the shot and Cordwell registered another save. In the 74th minute first year Natalie Rich (Waterford, NY) would flick a free kick attempt to Tomczyk from just outside the box and though the senior's shot would be deflected and change direction, Cordwell would make what would prove to likely be her best save of the evening.

The Trailblazers would keep the Hornets on their heels for remainder of the match, but the visitors held tough and managed to escape earning the 0-0 draw.

NVU Lyndon goalkeeper Karly Cordwell would make 12 saves on the evening and ends the season with a record of 2-10-3. MCLA senior keeper Jillian Currier (Troy, NY) made 2 saves in the contest and now sits at 2-9-3.

MCLA held decisive advantages in both shots (20-3) and corner kicks (9-0).

The Trailblazers will wrap up their regular season at home this Saturday at 12pm against MASCAC rival Bridgewater State.
