HIGHLIGHTS

  • Game #1
    • With MCLA playing as the home team despite being on the Owls home turf, it was a rough afternoon for the Trailblazers. Westfield State scored at least one run in all six innings, putting up multiple runs in three of the innings. The biggest offensive explosion came in the top of the sixth when Westfield scored five runs on five hits.
    • The Owls scored first, putting up a single run in the top of the opening frame before MCLA responded with two in the bottom of the inning. Maggie Closinski drove in both runs with an infield single that scored Hailey Peabody and Ella Staffier.
    • MCLA scored another run in the bottom of the fourth after Maddy Teta led off with a double to left field and stole third base. Teta then came home to score on Kristie Zator's to right field.
    • Westfield's Katherine Canty struck out five over four innings to pick up the win, upping her record to 4-2. Sarah Williams went the distance for the Trailblazers but had her record fall to 4-9.
  • Game #2
    • MCLA was the first on the scoreboard in the afternoon's second game. Peabody reached on a hit-by-pitch to open the inning and advanced to third on Staffier's single through the right side of the infield. Justina Pardi then singled down the left-field line to score Peabody. Staffier then scampered home on a wild pitch.
    • The Owl bats stayed hot in the second game, scoring 18 runs on 18 hits, all in the final four innings. Hannah Wodecki and Alyssa Clark each went yard for the "visitors", while Abby Clark added a double and a triple.
    • Westfield's Canty picked up her second win of the afternoon to improve to 5-2, after striking out five in three innings. Lora Woyton took the loss for the Trailblazers, dropping her record to 2-8.
