Men's Soccer drops tough 2-1 decision to Skidmore

Saratoga, NY- The MCLA Men's Soccer team dropped their fourth straight game as they lost a tough 2-1 decision at Skidmore this afternoon.  With the loss, the Trailblazers are now 2-4 overall.  The Thoroughbreds improve to 5-3-1 with the victory.

After a scoreless first half in which the hosts outshot MCLA 15-2, Skidmore wasted little time getting on the board in the closing half.  Just 29 seconds into the half, Nick Martinelli sent a ball over the Trailblazer defense and Brock Bakewell corralled it.  Bakewell ripped a shot from eight yards out and beat MCLA keeper Matt Robinson to give Skidmore a 1-0 lead.

The Trailblazers, who would only muster up four shots all game, would eventually tie the score in the 69th minute.  Freshman Dylan Pereira converted his seventh goal of the season off a rebound making it 1-1 with twenty minutes to play.

Skidmore would finally break the deadlock when Robby Smukler scored on a breakaway in the 84th minute for the game winner.  Adam Beek got credit for the assist on the goal.  MCLA couldn't get off a shot in the closing minutes.

Danny Ebenstein earned the win for Skidmore stopping two shots on the day.  Robinson earned eight saves for the Trailblazers.

For the match, Skidmore held a decisive 33-4 shot advantage and 4-1 in corners.

The Trailblazers will look to break into the win column when they return to Shewcraft field on Saturday as they host Salem State.
