How It Happened

After a scoreless first inning at Hendy Field, the Buccaneers scored two in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead early against Gordon. Maritime scored their first run on a squeeze play by Marsden who laid down the bunt and brought in Velzis to score. Later in the inning, the Bucs pulled off a double steal with Ely stealing second and Estrada scoring on the throw down to second.

In the top of the third, Gordon got a run back to make the score 2-1. Clarked reach on a fielder's choice and McIntyre scores from third. In the bottom of the frame, the Bucs extended the lead out to four scoring three runs. Pietrafesa singled to center field driving in Vieira. Then, Marsden doubled down the left field line bringing in Pietrafesa and Velzis to run the score to 5-1.

Maritime held the Scots at bay in the top of the fourth and extended their lead once again in the bottom of the inning. Pietrafesa singled through the left side scoring Weir followed by Velzis hitting a sacrifice fly to left bringing in Vieira. The Bucs led, 7-1, after four innings.

Gordon scored a handful of runs in the top of the fifth off of Sandoz to cut the Bucs lead to two runs. Dunkle doubled down the right field line to score Wilson. Normandin then singled on the infield and brought in another. Fales singled to right field to bring in two more and just like that it was a two-run, 7-5, ball game. The Buccaneers got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fifth on an Ely singled that scored White and the Bucs led 8-5 after five.

In the sixth, Maritime added insurance and put the icing on the cake with RBI from Pietrafesa and Marsden on singles to left. The Buccaneers led 10-5 after six.

The scoring was done for the Bucs in the game but Gordon got one more off of Sandoz in the eighth on a McIntyre single to score Fales. That would be all Gordon could get back as the Bucs took the win, 10-6, against Gordon.
