HIGHLIGHTS

  • Just short of the midpoint in the first period, MCLA notched the game's first goal on the power play. A shot from first-year forward Kiera Grom (Livonia, MI / Belle Tire) went high and wide of the net but found its way straight to sophomore defenseman Summer Bissaillion (Blind River, ON / Sudbury Wolves) along the right side boards. Bissaillion passed it cross-ice to senior forward Alexandrea Bednar (Vita, MB / Univ. of Wisconsin–Eau Claire). Bednar tapped it out to sophomore defenseman Mallory Stuart (Harpswell ME / Casco Bay Mariners), who fired off a slap shot from the left point that got past a screened Hood goalie. The goal at 9:41 of the first period was Stuart's first of the season, while the assists were the third of the year for both Bednar and Bissaillion.
  • The Trailblazers doubled their lead near the midpoint of the second period. After the Blazers dumped the puck into the MCLA defensive end to facilitate a line change, first-year defenseman Breanna Patterson (Argyle, TX / Dallas Stars Elite) retrieved the puck behind her own net and sent it along the boards to first-year forward Rozene Sabeti-Seidel (Turner Valley, AB / Rocky Mtn. Raiders). Sabeti-Seidel then fed it ahead to a streaking sophomore defenseman, Carlen Bertrand (Timmins, ON / Sudbury Wolves), near the blue line. Bertrand skated in on the Hood goalie, who came out of her net to cut down the angle, only to have Bertrand lift it over her stick-side shoulder. The goal was Bertrand's MASCAC-leading tenth of the year, while the assists were Sabeti-Seidel's first of the season and Patterson's fifth. The goal would end up being Bertrand's NCAA Division III leading fourth game-winning goal of the year.
  • Less than a minute into the third period, the Hood College offense cut the MCLA lead in half when Sofie Acona (0:23 of the third period, assisted by Mia Cheesebrough) recorded her first collegiate goal.
  • The Trailblazers' junior goalie Juliette Barney (Braintree, MA / Anna Maria College) finished the night with 29 saves on 30 shots to up her record to 3-2-0, while Maggie Grijalva stopped 27 of 29 and fell to 1-3-0.
