Softball downs SUNY Delhi, falls to William Patterson on last day of Gene Cusic Classic

NAPLES, Florida — The MCLA Softball team concluded its Spring Break Florida schedule today splitting its last double header of the Gene Cusic Classic. In game one the Trailblazers defeated SUNY Delhi 10-6 but fell to William Patterson 6-2 in game two. With today's results MCLA sits at 2-8.

After scoring two runs in the 1st inning and four more in the 2nd, the MCLA Softball team would eventually lead 10-0 after three and a half and hang on this morning to defeat SUNY Delhi 10-6.

MCLA's Kristie Zator (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) picked up where she left of yesterday with a pair of triples, the first of which in the top of the 1st brought home Madison Teta (2-for-2, 2 R, SB). Zator would score thanks to a Madyson Torres sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

The Trailblazers kept the pressure on in the top of the 2nd with aggressive base running and by taking advantage several Delhi miscues scoring four more runs to make it 6-0. 

Cinderella Khoury's (1-for-2, RBI) RBI single in the top of the 4th would be followed by two-run homerun by Hailey Peabody (1-for-4, 2 RBI's) to make it 9-0. Zator would score from third on an error following her second triple of the game to make it 10-0 MCLA heading to the bottom the 4th.

The Broncos would respond with two runs in the bottom of the 4th and four more to avoid being run-ruled and make a game of it. But neither team would score going forward and MCLA would earn their second victory of the season, 10-6.

SUNY Delhi staring pitcher Katelynn Rose (L, 0-3) would go the distance allowing nine earned runs on eleven hits. Sarah Williams (W, 1-2) earned her first win of the season with a complete game effort allowing four earned runs on nine hits while striking out three Bronco hitters.

Madison Teta would walk, steal second and eventually score on an error to tie things up 1-1 in the bottom of the 1st in the Trailblazers second game of the day against William Patterson.

MCLA would commit three errors in the top of the 2nd contributing to three Pioneers runs to make it 4-1. William Patterson would add two more in the top of the 3rd to stretch their lead to 6-1.

The Trailblazers would get one back in the bottom of the 4th when Madyson Torres (1-for-3, RBI) singled in Hailey Peabody (2-for-3, 2 SB) who had singled and had stolen second, but neither team would score again, and the Pioneers would ultimately claim the 6-2 win.

William Patterson starting pitcher Lilah Guthy (W, 3-0) would earn the win going 4 innings allowing one earned run on two hits before being relieved by Gabriella Brancaccio who pitched three scoreless innings.

MCLA starter Gabriella Cozzolino (L, 0-4) took the loss allowing three earned runs on four hits in four innings pitched. Sarah Williams finished the game throwing three scoreless innings while not allowing a hit.

MCLA will return to action on Saturday, March 25th when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut to take on Albertus Magnus in a doubleheader scheduled for 1pm and 3pm.
