Women’s Soccer downed by Westfield State

North Adams, MA- Forward Jenn Rennich (Bedford, MA) scored three times and added an assist leading Westfield State to a decisive 6-0 conference victory over MCLA this evening at Shewcraft Field. With the win the Owls improve to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, while the Trailblazers fall to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2 in MASCAC play.

Westfield State would score four goals in an 8-minute span to put this one away early. Rennich would open the scoring in the 13th minute and less than two minutes later, teammate Riley Lowe (Andover, MA) would make it 2-0 Owls. In the 21st minute, both Jaida Cochran (Middleboro, MA) and Rennich again would stretch the lead to 4-0.

MCLA would stem the tide for the rest of the half but in the 53rd minute, Westfield State's Mary Kate McAleavey (Quincy, MA) found the back to the net to make it 5-0. In the 85th minute Rennich would strike again for the hat trick and the graduate student's MASCAC leading 11th goal of the season.

Westfield State keeper Julia Robak (Chicopee, MA) started the contest and earned the win moving to 2-2 on the year. MCLA senior keeper Jillian Currier (Troy, NY) made an impressive 24 saves in the loss but drops to 1-5-1.

Westfield State will next travel to Smith College on Wednesday for a 4pm nonconference match. MCLA will be off until Saturday, October 1st when they host Mass Maritime for a 12pm MASCAC tilt.
